About US And Tail Risk Management

Although you can tell a lot about a business or service by looking at its website, the best way to see what they can do is by looking through their customer’s eyes and seeing what they’ve accomplished. At Value4Risk, we don’t get our testimonials by asking our clients for them – we wait for them to show off with their newly developed resilient business strategies. Reality always trumps words. We don’t believe in fishing for testimonials.

Value4Risk is a boutique professional services firm based in the DFW area that will help you better understand and manage extreme events through customized tail risk management tools. By means of customized tail risk strategies Value4Risk will aim at strengthening the resiliency of your business model thereby reducing the vulnerability of your organization to Black Swans.

Managers need to shift from a threat-centric approach to one that emphasizes resilience. The rash of catastrophic events from 9/11 to the 2008 financial crisis to Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy – not to mention the onset of cyber risk – have perceptibly disabused managers of the notion that the purpose of risk management is to eliminate risk.

Risk is to be managed, it is not something that can entirely be avoided. In the latter half of the 20th century, we seduced ourselves into thinking that we could reduce risk to near zero. In the process, we started to lose some of skill sets we need when a risk does manifest itself.

Companies should also not just evaluate the vulnerabilities of critical systems but also the consequences arising from their disruption. We need to work our way through interdependencies. Efforts by information technology departments to combat, for example, cyber risk can provide a useful template for risk managers in general. Nobody involved in cyber security thinks we can stop all hackers. Many of the concepts of cyber security need to migrate elsewhere.

Value4Risk also provides ad hoc office management services for start-ups.
